“strengthening and bolstering our regional alliances and partnerships to ensure that our combined deterrent is stronger than ever to sustain and ensure regional peace and security. Our network of treaty allies around the world, but particularly in the Indo-Pacific stretching from the East China Sea down to Oceana, is vital to the security and the stability of the region,” says a senior official from the Department of Defense.

The secretary has paid multiple visits to the region, the last being in November 2022.

The security and peace in the Indo-pacific region have been a complicated affair. Although China is perceived as the biggest threat, North Korea is surfacing as another.

There are other issues in the region besides China. Additionally, North Korea is upsetting the peace with an unprecedented number of ballistic missile launches over the past year.
