U.S and UAE to Collaborate to Improve Agritech

A global project to clean up agriculture, led by the United States and the United Arab Emirates, will include investments worth $8 billion in agricultural technologies.

“Some of this may go into emerging technologies. The notion of precision agriculture, everything from sensors and drones to understanding specifically each acre or hectare of land and what it needs and what it doesn’t need can, in turn, reduce inputs and the carbon footprint of those inputs,” said Tom Vilsack, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture.

The challenge of feeding the world is increasing. The conflict in Ukraine has worsened the dramatic increases in living expenses that followed the Covid-19 issue. 

It is anticipated that there will be 9.7 billion people on the planet by the year 2050. 

There may need to be more than conventional agricultural practices to meet the requirements of the new world. The increased demands will result in a challenging environment. However, the concerned officials are focusing more on agritech. Also, countries around the globe are taking the issue seriously. More experiments and innovations are taking place in the agritech industry. Conventional agricultural practices will certainly undergo massive changes in unpredictable ways.

Most of the funding will be directed toward critical technological areas, including nanotechnology, biotechnology, artificial technology, and others. However, emerging technologies will also be given importance, and some funds will be allocated toward strengthening the technologies and better leveraging them for overall improvement. 

UAE is currently making significant investments in aquaculture and agritech. 

The initiative, which already has 140 government and non-government partners, has gained the support of six more nations Chile, Costa Rica, Egypt, Guyana, Mozambique, and Turkey.
