Technical Issues Continue to Bother Autonomous Drones

Share:

Autonomous drones can fetch details that otherwise are not easily obtained. As a result, they are being leveraged across sectors. However, technical glitches often impact their results.

For instance, autonomous drones that rely on mobile networks to communicate effectively are sometimes provided with stable connections. But on the other hand, lack of network is the most frequent cause of disrupted relationships.

Also, drones are exposed to more than one network coverage while flying very high. There are instances wherein drones tend to switch between the networks. Consequently, network issues are possible.

Fluctuating data rates are another concern. Research on the possibility of such a technical glitch indicates the need to have drones that remain connected despite any fluctuations in data.

Researchers from Fraunhofer HHI, a German-based telecom enterprise, have researched this issue. The team of researchers found that creating new protocols for communication unaffected by jerky data streams is necessary.

One drawback of deploying drones is that, in most circumstances, regulatory bodies in many nations demand that a person maintain constant visual contact with them. That might make things take longer and cost more.

Drones’ brick-sized batteries are bulky and quickly depleted. In contrast, gasoline engines are noisy and produce emissions.
