Detection of High-altitude Surveillance Balloons, U.S and Canada to Work Together to Ensure Safety

High-altitude surveillance balloons were spotted above Canada and the U.S., So the countries are taking the issue seriously.

Pentagon is confident of China’s role here. However, China is yet to accept the allegation. Instead says, the matter needs to be looked into carefully.

Canada is yet to issue any official statement about who owns the surveillance balloons.

“A high-altitude surveillance balloon was detected, and NORAD actively tracks its movements. Canadians are safe, and Canada is taking steps to ensure the security of its airspace, including monitoring a potential second incident. NORAD, the Canadian Armed Forces, the Department of National Defence, and other partners have been assessing the situation and working in close coordination,” says an official release by Canadian Armed Forces.

Following the discovery, the Department of National Defence reports that Canada and the United States are collaborating to secure sensitive information against threats from foreign intelligence.

The surveillance attempts were centralized or focused on some susceptible areas.

One of the states where the balloon was noticed was Montana, home to Malmstrom Air Force Base, one of the country’s three nuclear missile silo fields.

Due to the suspected Chinese spy balloon being flown over the United States, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has postponed his forthcoming trip to Beijing.
