While Meta’s Threads app has had a rapid ascent to popularity, with 30 million downloads in the first 24 hours of its release, the wake has left some business owners and creators nonplussed.
The app will soon emerge as a new town square, a title once held by its rival Twitter, but Threads has more to offer its users than that. Threads has the community of Instagram, the flexibility and popularity of TikTok, and the structure of Twitter. This app touches so much of the social media landscape, and that is why your brand needs to be on this new app, even if you were never on Twitter.
Understanding Threads
Mark Zuckerberg announced the launch of Threads on July 5th, 2023. Each Instagram user that signs up boasts a badge on their profile denoting what number they were to
join the Instagram-built app. So, what is Threads exactly? Here is what Meta has to say in an announcement article published the same day of the app’s release to the public: “Instagram is where billions of people around the world connect over photos and videos. Our vision with Threads is to take what Instagram does best and expand that to text, creating a positive and creative space to express your ideas.”

Aside from the initial popularity, the most apparent factor has been the intuitive design that prompts Instagramers to sign-up. Millions of users’ curiosity was piqued when they spotted the Threads sign-up badge in other users’ bios. All you have to do is click on the badge, and after a few clicks your Instagram account details, such as your profile picture and bio, will be imported into the app and your account created. You can also select to follow everyone that you follow on your Instagram, which immediately grows
what could be a slow growing, barren, new app into a buzzing community.
Core Uses
Thread is a text based app designed to spark conversation. Instagram and Threads are interconnected for ease of use. You can share a Thread to your Instagram story and easily toggle between your Instagram profile and your Threads profile. Your personal choices on blocking, unfollowing, hiding words, and other safety tools will be available. At least for now, everyone under 16 will be defaulted to a private profile. If you are a brand looking to quickly grow your following on Thread, keep this in mind and make sure your account is not set to private. While Instagram seems to have thought of everything, they mention in the announcement article that they have plans to expand Threads features.
Threads Strategy
The thought of a new social media platform to manage and promote your business may be overwhelming, but your Threads strategy can be simple and stress free!
Managing text based social media platforms is less laborious than photo or video based platforms because graphic creation is not necessary. The stress of taking the most aesthetic photo or making the perfect TikTok is nowhere to be found on Threads. People are effortlessly having fun sharing their thoughts and ideas. The best way to use Threads is join in on the conversations, repurpose content from your other platforms,
interact with followers, and throw in a photo every now and then. It is that simple!
Threads is Waiting for You
There have been several new social media platforms released in the past few years. Most of them have fizzled out in comparison to the success of our current suite of social media platforms. Threads is essentially the “nepo baby” of the social media juggernaut, Meta. Needless to say, this new Instagram app will only grow, so capitalize on that early algorithm before it is too late!

Have you ever read The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell? It’s one of my favourite books and it inspired me to start this business. While it isn’t exactly about marketing, it is about social epidemics. I saw the principles of social epidemics reflected in marketing and it was fascinating to me. Ever since, I’ve been intrigued by the ripple effect marketing has on the world. There is plenty to juggle when it comes to running a business, and it takes a lot of time and work in order to get the most out of social media.
I put together several services to offer to your business that I believe are of key importance to perfecting your digital presence. There are so many different aspects of marketing; copy writing, photography, marketing techniques, algorithms, content creation, and trending topics. So, having someone solely dedicated to managing, designing, and marketing your business digitally is truly beneficial. I have earned my Digital Marketing Strategy and Planning specialization from Digital Marketing Institute and my Social Media Marketing professional certification from Meta. I am presently pursuing a Micro-Master’s of Data Science and Statistics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
