Cloud Backup Matures, Offering Faster Production and Streamlined Management

Share:

Today, a managed backup and disaster recovery service has been introduced to offer centralized, application-consistent data protection for workloads running in Google Cloud and on-premises, ensuring comprehensive and secure data backup solutions. With a focus on simplicity, this service streamlines the backup and restore process, serving critical use cases, including recovery from data corruption, data loss, ransomware incidents, or database cloning for testing and development purposes.

The managed backup and disaster recovery service offers several key benefits to its users. It provides centralized management, allowing users to efficiently oversee their backup and restore operations through a unified central dashboard. This streamlined approach reduces complexity and enhances overall operational efficiency. The service ensures on-demand recovery, enabling instant restoration of data through application-consistent, incremental-forever backups.

With a focus on minimizing downtime, it offers a low Recovery Time Objective (RTO). The service promotes efficient data storage by employing an “incremental-forever” methodology. After the initial backup, only incremental changes are stored, eliminating the need for unnecessary duplicate data storage. This approach not only optimizes storage costs but also accelerates the data restoration process.

The managed backup and disaster recovery service offers several key features to meet diverse data protection needs. It employs an “incremental-forever” backup mechanism, using changed-block tracking, which significantly reduces backup duration, minimizes the impact on production servers, and optimizes bandwidth and storage utilization. This approach not only ensures a low RPO but also results in cost savings.

Instant data recovery is facilitated through the service, allowing users to promptly mount and access VMware Engine VMs and databases directly from backups stored in Cloud Storage. This feature comes with a low RTO, eliminating the necessity of moving backup data to warm storage before access.

The service prioritizes application-consistent database backups, ensuring that data is captured after databases are quiesced. This approach leads to swift and consistent backups that are readily recoverable. Transaction logs are backed up as frequently as every 15 minutes, allowing recovery at any point in time.

The service reduces the operational burden by permitting selective exclusion of disks from backup for Compute Engine and VMware Engine VMs, thereby conserving storage and reducing costs.

This managed backup and disaster recovery service not only ensures data security and accessibility but also simplifies data protection processes while reducing operational costs, ultimately enhancing business resilience and continuity.
